A Texas Treasure |
Along the walls of the main lobby, you'll see photos of some of the most prominent guests of the Menger Hotel, from President Theodore Roosevelt to baseball great Babe Ruth. Originally built in 1859 on the site of Texas' first brewery, this two-story 50-room hotel became so popular that a 3-story addition was quickly built to make room for eager guests and has been expanded several times since. Today the Menger Hotel is the oldest continuously operating hotel west of the Mississippi. |
As a member of the Historic Hotels of America, you'll observe much of the architecture and artifacts from those early days inside the Menger Hotel, including priceless antiques and paintings, many of which were the personal selections of Mr. Menger, purchased during his trips to New York and Europe in the 1870s. Recently renovated to make our modern guests feel at home, the Menger remains an elegant landmark and historical destination in San Antonio. |

There are plenty of original touches in the hotel lobby where you'll see stately columns rising from the polished floors and antique Victorian furnishings and light fixtures. Guest rooms are elegant while modern facilities and rooms in the older part of the hotel feature lofty ceilings and views of the garden. Just steps from The Alamo and the famous San Antonio Riverwalk, your stay at the Menger Hotel will be touched by history and made memorable by our warm, welcoming hospitality. |
